Protecting and Understanding your Tenant’s Privacy
Your tenant has the right to be uninterrupted by you the landlord. You do not have the right as a landlord to visit the property, check up on the property, and enter the property on a regular basis. Checking on the property twice a year during routine inspections is fine. There are some circumstances that would allow you to enter the property at other times such as to handle maintenance repair requests.
Giving tenants 24-48 hour notice
Other than exceptions like emergencies (fire), you must give the tenant proper notice 24-48 hour notice in order to be able to enter the property. You would like them to be there so there’s no hassle or challenges.
Your tenant has the right to privacy
Being a landlord doesn’t give you the right to visit the property or bother the tenant on a regular basis. Respecting their privacy and giving ample notice can go a long way toward maintaining a good relationship with your tenant.
